A Nebraska substitute teacher was caught in the backseat of her car with a 17-year-old student early Saturday morning and arrested.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said they were called at about 3 a.m. about a suspicious vehicle on a dead end road in Elkhorn and arrived to find two people in the backseat of a Honda sedan, according to WOWT. One of the people jumped in the front seat and tried to flee but crashed into a yard a few blocks away.

The driver — the 17-year-old boy — ran from the scene but was found more than an hour later wearing only underwear and a t-shirt.

Meanwhile, back in the car, police found 45-year-old Erin Ward in the backseat trying to get dressed. When they spotted an Omaha Public Schools identification card in the car, she told them she was a substitute at Burk High School and other Omaho schools.

She said that she had sex with the driver, admitting that he is a 17-year-old student at one of the the schools where she worked. The Honda belonged to Ward and her spouse.

Both Ward and the teen received medical attention for minor injuries from the crash.

Ward was charged with felony sexual abuse by a school employee.
