‘I be stopping right before he dies’: Mom Films Herself Smothering Infant With Hands & Blanket

A Missouri woman was arrested this week for repeatedly abusing her infant son.

St. Louis police said that on April 15, Emma Rigdon, 20, slapped her son’s leg and put her hand over his mouth and nose to stop his breathing. Rigdon allegedly filmed the incident and sent it to a friend, according to KTVI.

Minutes later, Rigdon allegedly filmed a video in which she put her hand and a blanket over the baby’s face, causing him to cry to pull at the blanket. She also sent the video to the friend, KMOV reported.

“IDK when I do that, I feel happy like adrenalin rush. I be stopping right before he dies. Last time, he was blue. I really wanna kill him but I don’t want to go to jail so. It’s unfortunate. He’s just gonna have to pay for his existence,” Rigdon allegedly wrote in a text message.

The River Front Times reported that Ridgon’s son is under six months old. There is an active restraining order against the victim’s father, meaning he will likely be placed in state custody.

According to the news outlet, Rigdon’s lawyer revealed in court that his client’s borderline personality disorder is being exacerbated by postpartum depression.

Rigdon, who was denied bail, was charged with abuse or neglect of a child. She has hearings scheduled for next week and May 21.
