12-Year-Old Boy Who Killed Mom Over VR Headset Wants Case Moved to Juvenile Court

A Wisconsin boy who allegedly killed his mother in 2022 — when he was 10 — is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.

Quiana Mann’s 12-year-old son, who was not identified despite being charged as an adult, is seeking to move his case to juvenile court. The boy’s father also supports this move, according to WITI.

“Even with us talking, he has yet to say anything in regards to his mother,” the father said.

In November, the 10-year-old reportedly shot Mann, 44, in the face at their Milwaukee home for not purchasing him a virtual reality headset and for waking him up early. He initially claimed he accidentally shot his mother while twirling the gun; he also stated that he meant to shoot the wall to scare her.

“He took the gun, he went downstairs. At a distance of three feet or less, he pointed the gun with both hands, adopted a shooting stance, and fired that gun,” defense attorney Tanner Kilander said, WITI reported.

The boy allegedly went on Amazon and purchased the item  — an Oculus Virtual Reality Headset  — the morning after he fatally shot his mother. That same morning he reportedly attacked his 7-year-old cousin, leading his aunt to take him to his grandmother’s house where child welfare workers were.

The boy allegedly told his grandmother, “I’m really sorry for what happened. I’m sorry for killing my mom,” before asking if his Amazon package had arrived.

According to police, the boy stated that he understood that guns can kill people. Mann had set up cameras around the home, but they were unplugged at the time of her shooting death.

Mann’s son is charged with first-degree reckless homicide and first-degree intentional homicide. The boy’s lawyers are claiming he was suffering from mental health issues exacerbated by a head injury.

According to WITI, prosecutors want him to remain charged as an adult as he could be released too soon if the case is tried in juvenile court.
