‘Say Bye to Daddy,’ Mother Instructs Toddler Before Killing Him and Committing Suicide

A Texas mother who killed herself and her toddler son in March texted her ex-husband to “say goodbye to your son” before the nurder-suicide in a Bexar County park.

Authorities also found a 21-second recording on Savannah Kriger’s phone showing her and son Kaiden sitting in the drainage ditch at Tom Slick Park where their bodies were later found, KENS reported.

“Savannah instructs Kaiden to say bye to Daddy,” Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said.

The bodies of Kriger and 3-year-old Kaiden were found on March 19, a day after an Amber Alert was issued for the boy, as CrimeOnline reported. Kriger and her ex were embroiled in a bitter custody battle at the time, and she was due in court on March 18.

Coroners deemed the killings a murder suicide in late April.

Salazar provided a timeline of the day, bolstered by cell phone data and surveillance video, KENS said. He said that Kriger stopped by her ex-husband’s home just after 1 p.m. on March 18 while he was at work.

“[She] damaged various items of personal clothing, furniture items,” Salazar said before leaving and driving to her own home.

“There were some wedding dresses that were laid out. We believe that she fired two shots into her wedding portraits,” the sheriff said.

Surveillance video shows Kriger picking up Kaiden at his day care at 2:30 p.m. About 45 minutes later, she sent a text to her ex that read, “Say goodbye to your son” then apparently recorded the short video.

Authorities found a handgun in the ditch next to the bodies. The shell casings found there matched casings found at Kriger’s home.
