Florida Man Kidnaps Woman Who Struck Him on His Bicycle

A Florida man has been charged with kidnapping after he carjacked a woman who had struck him on his bicycle.

Danny Keith Phelps, 67, was charged with kidnapping/false imprisonment, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and tampering with a witness, the Lake City Police Department said.

Officers were called to a Lake City pharmacy on Thursday afternoon by a woman who told them a bizarre story. She said she saw a bicyclist trying to cross a street at an intersection of West Highway 80. She said she made contact with the man, who motioned her to move forward. But when she started to go, he abruptly moved in front o her and was hit.

The victim said she got out of her car to check on the man and call 911, but when she did, he slapped the phone from her hand and “threatened violence.” He then ordered her to get into her car, while putting his bicycle into the back, and got into the passenger seat. There, she said, he took out a knife and told her to drive “to a specific location.”

Once there, he got out, and the victim returned to the pharmacy, where she worked. Police did not say if he took his bicycle.

Lake City Police did not say how, but they identified the suspect and arrested him.
