Wedding Guest Blows Up Home of Bride and Groom During Ceremony

Police in Illinois say a wedding guest left the ceremony last month and blew up the home where the couple lived, killing himself and the family’s six cats.

Anthony Avila-Puebla, 31, was seen on February 15 at the wedding of Eleni Vrettos and Tom Davis, but he disappeared from the venue, WLS reported. On Saturday, investigators identified him as the body found in the rubble of Vrettos’ family home and said he was seen on surveillance footage carrying jugs of a flammable liquid into the home.

Police said Avila-Puebla was in a relationship with someone else who lived in the home.

Eleven families were displaced by the massive explosion and fire.

“The building belonged to my family for almost 40 years. Yeah, I grew up here, so I live, lived here, and I work in the community. And I mean, Cicero is all I really know,” Vrettos said at the time.

Police said Avila-Puebla parked a half a block away and carried the jugs into the home. They say he set the house on fire and never came out.

They have not identified a motive.
