Iowa Man Charged With Murder 2 Months After Girlfriend Found Dead in Their Home

An Iowa man has been charged with murder two months after his girlfriend was found dead in the Iowa City home they shared.

A criminal complaint says that Joshua Perry called 911 on January 6 and reported that a woman was “passed out cold” in the home, The Iowa City Gazette reported. Investigators arrived and found Victoria Skarda, 33, dead.

Perry, 34, was arrested on domestic abuse and child endangerment charges and has been in jail since that time.

An autopsy determined that Skarda died from cardiorespiratory arrest in a setting of a recent physical assault, according to the criminal complaint charging Perry with murder.

Iowa City police had been the couple’s address several times for domestic altercations.

The couple shared a child, whose age was not included in the reports.

Johnson County Attorney Rachel Zimmerman filed to dismiss the lesser charges against Perry after the murder charge was filed.
