Teen Oregon Dad Charged With Murder in Death of 6-Week-Old Son

A 19-year-old Oregon man has been charged with murder in the death of his 6-week-old son.

Gladstone Police said they were called on April 20 after Randall Children’s Hospital admitted the boy with a severe brain injury, KPTV reported. Maliki Skutley was initially charged with first-degree assault after police investigated the incident.

But the boy, Paxton Schuler, died three days later, and a grand jury indicted the accused killer on two counts of second-degree murder along with the assault charge.

Police have not provided details about the assault, which they said took place on April 16, except to say that Skutley was “deliberately cruel.”

An autopsy said the child died by lack of oxygen to the brain caused by blunt force trauma or extreme pressure.

The Clackamas County DA’s office said the boy’s mother left the child with Skutley while she was at work. The family was living at the Budget Inn in Gladstone.

A GoFundMe said little Paxton was declared brain dead and the mother opted to “let him go.”
