Illinois police have arrested the parents of a newborn baby who was found in a shallow grave on Friday.
Nicole Pokrzywa, 36, gave birth to a baby girl at a Wilmington home in October 2024. The baby was discovered in a toilet — where her father, William Cosmen, 38, tried to push her down the drain with a plunger, according to WSPY.
The baby’s body was reportedly left in the toilet overnight before she was buried. According to WFLD, the baby was buried in a beer box and buried on the Wilmington property. The baby’s grave was reportedly marked by a makeshift headstone.
WSPY reported that an autopsy confirmed the baby was between 24 and 27 weeks old. Police said the baby weighed between five and seven pounds.
Will County police got a tip which led them to the Wilmington property on Friday. Police said the remains — which were buried three feet underground — in an Old Style beer box and wrapped in a plastic bag and cloth.
Cosmen and Pokrzywa are charged with desecration of a corpse. A cause of death remains undisclosed as additional testing is pending.
