NC Man Carjacks Ambulance, Crashes It Into Car, Kills Woman Driving the Car

A North Carolina felon was arrested over the weekend after he allegedly stole an ambulance and then fatally shot a 74-year-old woman after crashing into her car.

Cheyenne Woods, 36, reportedly called for an ambulance for a medical emergency, then produced a gun while on the way to a hospital and took the ambulance from the two EMS technicians, WRAL reported.

Shortly afterward, he crashed the ambulance into a car driven by Marie Locklear, approached the car, and shot Locklear, who was taken to a hospital and later died.

The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office did not say what kind of medical emergency the ambulance responded to or what led up to Locklear’s fatal shooting. Sheriff Burnis Wilkins called the shooting a “senseless act.”

Woods was arrested nearby and charged with first degree murder, eight counts of discharging a weapon into occupied property, robbery with a weapon, possessing a firearm by a felon, and possessing a stolen firearm.

“This is yet another senseless act of murder committed by a repeat violent felon whose criminal history includes a prior murder conviction,” Wilkins said.

Woods was out on bond on fiarearm and assault charges at the time he murdered Locklear. He has previously faced first degree murder charges in 2010 and 2008 but pleaded guilty to lesser charges both times.

He was initially charged as a second suspect in the ambush murder of Jessica Cahoon in 2008, but served only four years for a robbery with a dangerous weapon charge. After his release in 2016, he pleaded guilty to second degree murder for a fatal shooting in 2010. He was sentenced to 10 years but was released in 2022.
