A Pennsylvania woman has been charged with murder for the stabbing death of her 23-year-old daughter.
Diane Grovola, 57, also stabbed the family dog and then hersef after the fatal stabbing, the Delco Daily Times reported.
Police were called to the home in Upper Darby Township around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday by Grovola’s husband, John Grovola, who said he had arrived home from work at UPS and was met first by his bleeding dog and then his wife, who was sitting on the living room couch, holding a knife, and told him, “I stabbed our daughter.”
John Grovola went to their daughter’s bedroom and saw her lying on her back with her eyes open, unresponsive. He returned to the living room and called 911. While he was calling, he said, Diane Grovola said she didn’t want to live anymore and began stabbing herself.
The dispatcher told him to get out of the house, and as he did, he said he saw his wife throw the knife. He also said she stripped naked and that he could hear her breaking items in the kitchen until police arrived.
Police found her naked, covered in blood, with superficial cuts on her body. She resisted arrest and was forcibly secured.
“Sorry, I should have stabbed myself first,” she told officers, according to the complaint against her.
The daughter, Daniele Grovola, suffered cuts to her face, chest, legs, and back and was pronounced dead on the scene.
The dog was taken to a veterinarian for treatment.
After obtaining a search warrant, police found a large, black-handled knife stuck in the living room wall with apparent blood on it.
The dog was transported to a veterinarian facility where it was treated for its injuries.
Diane Grovola was charged with criminal homicide, first- and third-degree murder, possession of an instrument of crime, and aggravated cruelty to animals.
She was denied bond.
