Toddler Found Dead, ‘Significant Injuries’ Involved Frying Pan, Cops Say

A 24-year-old California woman has been arrested after police found her 15-month-old daughter at a Santa Monica apartment with “significant injuries” involving a frying pan.

Santa Monica police did not describe the nature of those injuries, however, saying that the LA County Medical Examiner would determine cause and manner of death, KABC reported.

Police said Carmen Anita Degregg was initially detained by UCLA campus police, who contacted the Santa Monica department regarding comments that she made about harming the toddler and leaving her inside a Santa Monica apartment. Officers responded there and found the little girl, taking her to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Degregg is being held on a $2 million bond with a court date on Thursday. Jail records do not specify the charges she faces, only that they felonies.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
