Boyfriend Leaves Pregnant Girlfriend With Brain Bleed, Says He Can’t Go to Jail Because of ‘Brace’ in His Leg

A Michigan man is charged with assault after he allegedly slammed his pregnant girlfriend into a wall and the floor, leaving her with a brain bleed.

Dylan Lee Haddix, 29, allegedly drove the 39-year-old woman to a Walmart to get Tylenol while she asked him to to go the hospital, MLive reported. When they returned from the big box store, the woman had a seizure before even getting out of the car, prompting Haddix to call 911.

Hospital staff called police when the woman arrived. Police found Haddix in the waiting room, where he told them that she fell and hit her head on the corner of a wall. He said he noticed something wrong when she began slurring words, and drove her to Walmart for medication rather than taking her to a hospital.

Medical staff noted the woman had a large contusion on the side of her forehead and bruises on her neck and arms. Haddix told police he had no idea how those injuries happened.

Police took Haddix in for more questioning, and he told investiators that he’d had a motorcycle crash in 2014 that left him with memory issues. Then he said that he was arguing with his girlfriend because she was using a gambling app and admitted slamming her head into the wall and floor, telling her, “I told you time and time again, don’t mess with my money.”

Then, he said, he took her to Walmart because “I was in the helping mood and I like helping people.”

“I didn’t mean for this to happen and I feel terrible,” he said.

The woman regained consciousness the following day and told police that Haddix had gotten angry about their toddler crying “and he kind of pushed me” while she was holding the child.

She said that Haddix had been violent with her around 10 times, including months earlier when she was 10 weeks pregnant. She is currently five months pregnant.

When police went arrest Haddix on December 29, he told the officers he “wasn’t allowed to go to jail due to a brace that was on his leg.” He fought with officers and was ultimately also charged with assault while resisting arrest.

Haddix is being held on a $50,000 bond and is due in court on January 14.
