Dad on Rampage Tossed Hot Soup on 3-Month-Old & Rubbed Chili Oil in Woman’s Eyes

An Idaho man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly assaulting a woman and his infant child.

Bonneville County police were responding to a domestic disturbance when they heard a woman screaming and running out of an apartment. The woman, whose two children were crying, told officers that Carlos Swearingen, 23, had been drinking all night and that he threatened to kill two relatives after opening some mail, according to East Idaho News.

Police overheard a loud bang from inside the apartment before detaining Swearingen, who was covered in fresh scratches and only wearing underwear. While Swearingen stated that he only shoved the woman, she claimed he took a bowl with onions, hot dumplings, and hot chili oil and threw it at his 3-month-old after she expressed displeasure at what he was saying.

The woman told officers that she was cleaning the soup off the baby when Swearingen came behind her and rubbed hot chili oil in her eyes and grabbed her hair. She said Swearingen struck the side of her head as she washed her eyes, according to East Idaho News.

The woman was leaving the bathroom and telling Swearingen to stop hitting her because she was holding the baby. He allegedly responded that he “didn’t give a f**k” and continued to strike her.

The woman said she eventually gave the baby to her 5-year-old child before lying on the floor in a defensive position. She reportedly tried to retrieve her phone from the living room, but Swearingen took it and threw it against a wall.

The woman said she scratched Swearingen during the assault, and he had put her in a rear-naked choke. The 5-year-old child corroborated many of the woman’s allegations regarding Tuesday’s incident, according to East Idaho News.

Swearingen was charged with attempted strangulation, injury to a child, domestic battery without traumatic injury, and domestic battery or assault in the presence of a child. His bond was set at $75,000.
