A reward is being offered for a New Jersey man who has been missing since November.
Rutgers University student Mortimer Wortman was last seen in the parking lot of Regional Day School in Jackson on November 21. While authorities have not said whether foul play is involved in his disappearance, Wortman’s brother told NJ.com that they want a man arrested who was jailed in July for threatening Wortman and a woman with a knife.
The man, who has not been criminally charged in connection with Wortman’s disappearance, allegedly met up with Wortman at Regional High School on the night he vanished. The man told police that he and Wortman got into a heated argument and Wortman ran into the woods, according to NJ.com.
Wortman’s relationship to the man was not disclosed. The man was also accused of waiting 16 hours before reporting Wortman missing.
Wortman remains unaccounted for despite his car being found at the school.
Wortman was described as standing 5-feet and 10 inches tall, weighing 200 pounds, and having dark brown hair and brown eyes. He has a nose piercing and several earrings in both ears. He was last seen wearing a black T-shirt, burgundy hoodie, and blue jeans.
Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts should call Jackson police at 732-928-1111 and press “0” to speak with a dispatcher.
Mortimer Wortman’s case is being covered as part of Crime Online’s “Finding the Lost: Black and Missing” series, which will feature a missing Black person every day in February. The full series can be read here.
