2 Women Dead in Florida ‘Domestic Related Crime;’ Suspect Kills Himself After Highway Chase

The suspect in a double murder in rural Florida was found dead in his vehicle after a chase on Interstate 75.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office were called to a scene in the western part of the county at about 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday and found “two female victims” dead from gunshot wounds.

While it’s not clear how they knew, the suspect in the deaths fled the scene in a black 2020 Ford F-150, the sheriff’s office said. Police made contact with the suspect by telephone, but they didn’t say what was said.

Police contacted the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to help with their investigation of what they said was possibly “a domestic related crime.”

As deputies spread the word of the murder suspect and his vehicle, a deputy with the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office reported that he was behind the suspect vehicle and called in more deputies and the Florida Highway Patrol.

The officers attempted a traffic stop at about 5:30 p.m., but the suspect “fled at a high rate of speed, southbound on the interstate. A trooper conducted a PIT maneuver on the truck, which successfully stopped it on the west shoulder of the highway.

Officers ordered the driver out of the vehicle, but with no response “for an extended period of time,” they approached and found the driver dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The highway near Paynes Prairie was shut down for several hours during the chase and investigation, WCJB reported.

The investigation is still going on, and police said they would release the suspect’s name later.
