Florida Man Guns Down Father-in-Law With Dementia, Says He Was ‘Narcissist’ Who Made His Life ‘Miserable’

A Florida man has been charged with premediated murder in the the shooting death of his father-in-law late Tuesday night.

An arrest report reveals significant strain in the household leading up to the murder of Bill Toth, the elderly man shot dead in his kitchen by 42-year-old Shaun Simon, WOFL reports.

Toth was taken to a hospital in critical condition and died several hours later.

Toth’s wife, Carol Toth, and his daughter, Jennifer Simon, told investigators that Toth had been showing signs of dementia for several months, which investigators say exacerbated the tensions, Law&Crime reported.

On Tuesday night, the police report said, Toth “slapped” his wife, which apparently upset Shaun Simon. Shortly afterward, Jennifer Simon and Carol Toth heard a “loud “bang” and found Toth bleeding on the floor.

Deputies said that Toth confessed to the killing, saying the elder man had made his “life miserable” and describing him as a narcissist. He said he “made the decision to shoot Bill Toth” upon hearing that he had slapped his wife. He retrieved his gun from beneath a dog ramp where he had it concealed and shot him.

Simon was ordered held without bond and ordered to have no contact with his mother-in-law, although he is allowed to have contact with his wife.
