Good Samaritan Shot in Head by Woman He Offered to Take to Warming Shelter

A Missouri woman is behind bars, accused of fatally shooting a man who offered her a ride to a warming shelter in bitterly cold temperatures early Sunday morning.

St. Louis police said that a surveillance camera captured Brittany Rivoire shooting William Palmer in the head, KMOV reports.

Palmer and a friend were out hunting scrap metal early Sunday morning, his fiancee, Riyan Jones, told the station.

“If there was a dumpster in sight, he was looking in it,” Jones said. “As far as we know, she asked him at a gas station to take her to a warming shelter because she was cold.”

Palmer’s friend got out of the truck sometime before the shooting, reportedly because Rivoire’s behavior was concerning, KMOV reported.

“I used to tell him all the time not to pick up people off the side of the road anymore. He did it a lot. If he saw someone walking, he was picking them up and taking them as far as he could,” Jones said.

Police say Rivoire drove Palmer’s truck for a few blocks before abandoning it.

Palmer leaves behind a 6-year-old son, an 18-year-old daughter, and a 21-year-old son, Jones said in a GoFundMe set up to pay for funeral expenses.

Rivoire is charged with first degree murder, armed criminal action, unlawful possession of a firearm, and tampering with a vehicle, jail records show. She’s being held without bond.
