Rapper Lil Jon confirmed the death of his son on Friday, days after he was reported missing in Georgia.
Lil Jon said in a statement issued to USA Today that he and his son’s mother are “extremely heartbroken” over Nathan Smith’s death. Smith, 27, was reported missing in Milton on February 3, and local police said divers with Cherokee County Fire located a body in a pond on Friday.
WXIA reported that Smith, who also goes by DJ Young Slade, had run from his home on February 3. His home was located not far from a pond where police concentrated initial search efforts before widening their radius. Details regarding Smith’s disappearance were scarce, but police said he may have been disoriented.
“Nathan was the kindest human being you would ever meet. He was immensely caring, thoughtful, polite, passionate, and warmhearted — he loved his family and the friends in his life to the fullest,” Lil Jon said in a statement issued to TMZ.
Milton police said there is no indication of foul play in Smith’s death. The Fulton County Medical Examiner is in the process of confirming his cause of death.
