Missing 11-Month-Old Baby Found Dead; Investigators Say It’s Homicide

An 11-month-old baby was found dead Monday morning in remote New Mexico after an overnight search.

The child’s mother reported them missing Sunday night, KRQE reported, and officials are investigating the death as a homicide.

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office said the baby was reported missing late Sunday evening and was found dead just before 10 a.m. on Monday.

“We understand how deeply unsettling this is for our community,” said Sheriff Shane Ferrari. “We are working around the clock to gather evidence as to what and who was responsible for the death of this child. There is no threat to the public.”

Officials have not provided any information about the circumstances of the child’s disappearance.

The sheriff’s office asked for privacy for the family “as they grieve this immense loss.”

Investigators said they were pursuing the case “relentlessly” and will provide information as it become available.
