Calderwood worked at the facility where Murname lived and moved to Utah after she disappeared.
A tip to Kenai Peninsula Crime Stoppers fingered Calderwood on May 5, 2022, and later that year, his wife told investigators that he had told her he killed Murname in the crawlspace beneath his then-girlfriend’s house.
Investigators found Murname’s DNA in the crawlspace.
A search warrant uncovered a watch belonging to Murname in a drawer alongside her missing person poster.
According to an affidavit filed in the case, Calderwood told the Crime Stoppers tipster that he saw Murname while driving around looking for a victim and picked her up, Law&Crime reported. When he got to the house, he tortured and killer her then threw her phone in a lake and left her body in a dumpster.
Calderwood reportedly had a history of violent behavior, including rape and cruelty to animals.
Calderwood was arrested in May 2022. He will be formally sentenced on July 1.
