The parents of a central California baby found dead last month are both behind bars facing child abuse and murder charges.
Four-month-old Devonte McIntyre was found dead at the home on January 23, KFSN reported. Court documents say an autopsy revealed the boy’s injuries including bleeding from his head in injuries to his mouth, but an official cause of death has not been determined.
Maleek McIntyre, the boy’s 20-year-old father, was arrested on February 4 and is being held on a $1 million bond. His mother, 19-year-old Jasmine Polk, was arrested on February 9 and has no bond.
Few details have been released about the case. Polk appeared in court on Wednesday and is due again on Thursday and Monday. McIntyre is due in court again on Thursday.
Meanwhile, services were held for the baby boy on Tuesday. Lakisha Carmon, the infant’s great-godmother, said that Polk “is not a baby killer.
“She has mental issues that are documented,” Carmon said.
“It’s really difficult because to know that she is in jail and to know that she can’t be here for the homegoing of her child that she had for four months,” she said.
