Cops: Florida Teen Kills Girlfriend, Captured in North Alabama

An 18-year-old Florida man was tracked to north Alabama last week and arrested for the murder of his girlfriend.

Azallia Heather “Zia” Dotson-Salinas, 19, was found dead in a trailer on Friday, according to the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office, which did not say how she died.

After conducting interviews with family, they identified Dominic Alexander Van Wasshenova as a person of interest in her murder. Later that same day, law enforcement in Alabama found Van Wasshenova traveling on Interstate 65 more than 300 miles from the crime scene, where the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office and Huntsville Police Department stopped and detained him.

Santa Rosa County detectives traveled to Limestone County to interview him and charged him with homicide-murder dangerous depraved without premeditation. He remains in the Limestone County jail awaiting extradition.

No other details were provided. A GoFundMe set up by Dotson-Salinas’s sister indicated that she was originally from Michigan, where her family still lives.
