This month marks 10 years since a 2-year-old California girl vanished under suspicious and concerning circumstances.
Arianna Fitts was last seen in Oakland in February 2016, months before her mother was found buried at John McLaren Park in San Francisco on April 8. Fitts’ mother was last seen leaving her job at Best Buy in San Francisco on April 1, after getting a call to meet with her daughter’s babysitter.
Fitts’ disappearance only came to light after her mother’s body was found. Police believe Fitts went missing while in the care of her babysitter and her husband. Police also said Fitts’ mother was lured to meet the babysitter before her murder, according to KVVU.

The FBI said it does not believe Fitts was with her mother when she was killed. However, authorities suspect the person who killed Fitts’ mother is also involved in Fitts’ ongoing disappearance.
Officials previously said they have persons of interest in this case, but they have not disclosed their identities or their relationship to Fitts and her mother.
In 2024, the FBI zeroed in on the Las Vegas Valley — saying people in the area may have information about this case. Despite this no arrests have been made concerning Fitts’ disappearance or her mother’s slaying.
Anyone with information regarding Arianna Fitts’ disappearance or Nicole Fitts’ murder should call the San Francisco Homicide Unit at 415-553-1145 or 415-575-4444 (anonymous).
Fitts’ case is being covered as part of CrimeOnline’s “Finding the Lost: Black and Missing” series, which will feature a missing Black person every day in February. The full series can be read here.
