A manhunt is on in Utah after three women were found dead in two different locations in Wayne County.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office put out a vague notice about “recent incidents,” calling on residents to “take extra precautions, keep lights on, keep doors locked, remain home or with others,” while the Utah Department of Public Safety provided more specific information.
DPS said a 911 call came in Wednesday afternoon reporting two dead women on a hiking trail in Wayne County. Investigators later found “a third victim” at a home in the county. They did not say how the three women were connected or what led them to the home where the third woman was found.
One of the women was said to be in her 30s, another in her 60s, and a third in her 80s.
The Wayne County School District shut down schools in the area on Thursday and Friday “due to unfolding events in the county,” KSL reported. The district also said it would have counselors on scene when schools reopen next week.
Wayne County also shut down its courthouse in Loa “due to the current situation in Wayne County.” Other businesses and government offices also announced their closures.
DPS asked for help locating a 2022 white Subaru Outback with Utah license plate U560YF. They also asked resident in the area of Torrey “to take extra precautions, such as locking doors, remaining at home or with others, and being vigilant about surroundings. Please report any suspicious activity to 911.”
Wayne County is a lightly populated area in south central Utah. It’s population was less than 2,500 in the 2020 census.
