Georgia Man Caught on Camera Shoving Kids on Bikes into Park Fountain

A Georgia man was arrested after he was caught on video last month shoving two kids on bicycles into fountains as they rode past him in a Sandy Springs park.

Stephen Catterton is seen walking by the fountains on February 28, then stopping before the two boys reached him, shoving one into a fountain on one side of the path and the other toward a fountain on the opposite side of the path. The second boy nearly his his head on a wall surrounding the fountain. Both boys were wearing helmets.

A man and a woman who had been walking near Catterton stopped to assist the boys while Catterton continued on, although the woman appeared to be trying to walk by. It’s not clear if they knew Catterton, but they were talking with him just before the assault, and someone told police Catterton was at the nearby concert.

Sandy Springs Police later found him at a concert nearby and took him into custody there.

In the body camera video released by police, Catterton asks why he was being arrested.

“For assaulting juveniles,” an officer responds. “We have it on video.”

The kids “ran right at me,” Catterton replies.

“Sir, we watched the video. You can tell that to the judge,” the officer says.

“Pushing kids off bicycles is not only unacceptable, it’s also a quick way to meet our officers,” the police department said on Facebook. “If Mr. Catterton happens to be your neighbor, you may want to use caution.”

Police did not say what charges Catterton faces.
