Dad Causes 30 Fractures in ‘Colicky’ Baby’s Body Over 2 Months

A New Hampshire man was arrested on Friday after investigators found he had caused 30 fractures over two months in his now 3-month-old son’s body.

The Nashua Police Department said that they were contacted by the state Department of children, Youth and Families about the boy, who “had suffered serious injuries.”

A quick investigation detetermined that the cild’s father, Drew Babcock, had caused the injuries. He was charged with eight counts of first degree assault-domestic violence.

Babcock, 36, reported told investigators that his son was very colicky, which caused him to “lose” control and start hurting the baby, the New Hampshire Union Leader said.

Among the infant’s multiple injuries were breaks to both femurs and a clavicle, along with numerous bruises that caused his lungs to fill with fluid, prosecutors said during his arraignment on Monday.

Judge Amy Spony denied a defense motion for a $10,000 bail and ordered him held on preventative detention.

The case originated in the Lakes Region but was moved to Nashua, where Babcock and his estranged wife recently moved.

A probable cause statement said that Babcock told his estranged wife that he thought he had injured the infant. He said he squeezed him to stop him from crying and “may have applied too much pressure, but he did not realize that the had broken” any bones, the affidavit said.
