Joseph Duggar was arrested in Arkansas on Wednesday for sexually abusing a juvenile in Florida.
Bay County, Florida, police said in a press release that Duggar, 31, molested a child younger than 12 in Panama City Beach in 2020. The 14-year-old victim said she was 9 when Duggar touched her on a family vacation, according to the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
According to police, the victim said Duggar had asked her to sit on his lap. Duggar allegedly later asked the girl to sit next to her and covered them with a blanket — leading him to move her underwear and touch her genitals and thighs.
Duggar reportedly apologized for his actions and stopped abusing the victim.
On Tuesday, the victim’s father confronted Duggar about the abuse. Duggar allegedly confessed to both the father and Tontitown investigators.
Duggar is awaiting extradition to Florida, where he is charged with lewd and lascivious molestation of a victim less than 12 years old and lewd and lascivious behavior conducted by a person 18 years or older.
His older brother, Josh, 38, is currently serving a 12-year sentence for receiving and possessing child pornography.
