First-Degree Murder Charges Filed Against 11-Year-Old Boy Who Killed 5-Year-Old Brother

On Monday, Colorado authorities charged an 11-year-old boy with last week’s murder of his 5-year-old brother.

On March 10, Arapahoe County police responded to a Centennial home where a 5-year-old boy was found deceased. While the victim’s 11-year-old brother is charged with first-degree murder, an Arapahoe County District Attorney’s Office spokesperson told the Colorado Springs Gazette that he is being processed in juvenile court, as minors younger than 12 cannot be prosecuted as adults.

The victim and his brother have not been publicly identified. Details surrounding the 5-year-old’s death are also scarce because the case is being tried in juvenile court, where records are withheld from the public.

CBS reported that the boys’ parents have not been criminally charged.
