A South Carolina man was arrested last week after his elderly father’s mutilated remains were reportedly discovered in a 55-gallon barrel.
Judson Hawkins Jr., 82, apparently died several months before Darlington County officials found his body in his Hartsville home on March 18. Since then, authorities accused the deceased man’s son, Judson Hawkins III, of providing false information to hinder a missing persons investigation, according to WBTW.
An arrest warrant also stated that Hawkins III illegally moved his father’s body from the home to another location on the property, according to WPDE.
Hawkins Jr.’s cause of death and manner of death are still unknown. Despite this, his son is charged with destruction or removal of human remains and obstructing justice.
Hawkins Jr.’s son appeared in court on Friday and was denied bond. He is due back in court in early June.
