Gypsy Rose Blanchard has apologized days after she appeared in a TikTok video where she joked about the 2015 death of her mother.
On Saturday, influencer Natalie Reynolds posted a video of her and Rose, 34, participating in a TikTok trend called “We listen and we don’t judge.” Rose was filmed saying how she went to prison before gesturing an X sign with her hands, mimicking a choking sound, and saying “…my own mom.”

Rose Blanchard served about eight years for having her then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, go to her family’s home to kill her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard. Dee Dee Blanchard is believed to have suffered from Munchausen by proxy, which entailed forcing her daughter to use a wheelchair and subjecting her to unnecessary medical treatments. Before the slaying, the mother allegedly isolated Rose Blanchard and tied her to a bed to stop her from escaping.
Rose Blanchard, who was released from prison in 2023, told TMZ that she understands why the public feels the video joked about her mother’s murder. She claimed doing the TikTok trend was her idea, as she and Reynolds have had controversial pasts.
“That was the entire point of the video: accountability and growth,” she said. “Unfortunately, it wasn’t received how we wanted.”
Rose Blanchard also told TMZ that the X gesture was not her making light of her mother’s death; it was a way to prevent TikTok from moderating the video due to the sensitive subject matter.
“I thought I could frame it in a way…but I thought it could be a creative way to own past mistakes and take accountability,” she said.
