A 15-year-old Texas boy brought a gun to school Monday morning and shot a Hill Country College Preparatory High School teacher before turning the gun on himself.
Late Monday afternoon, the Comal County Sheriff’s Office said the teacher remained hospitalized and her condition was unknown. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene.
School officials announced that the school would be closed on Tuesday and that a decision about the rest of the week would be made later that day. Counselors were made available on Tuesday at the Mamman Family Public Library in Bulverde.
Neither the teacher nor the student have been publicly identified. Officials have also not provided a motive for the shooting.
Comal County Sheriff Mark Reynolds said in a news conference that investigators would be questioning the boy’s family to determine how he got his hands on the gun, KSAT said.
“What happened today is something no community ever wants to face, but we prepare for something that we hope never occurs,” Reynolds said.
