Florida Woman Hides 93-Year-Old Mother’s Body in a Freezer To Collect Disability Benefits

A 64-year-old Florida woman was arrested this week after investigators determined she hid her 93-year-old mother’s body in a freezer so she could keep collecting her disability benefits.

Sebastian Police were called to Marie Hoskins’ home in late April after neighbors reported they hadn’t seen her in some time, as CrimeOnline previously reported. When they first arrived, they were unable to get inside, but returned the next day with an out of town family member who let them inside.

Inside they found 64-year-old Michele Hoskins, who initially told them she hadn’t seen her mother in a while. Officers checked the house and found Marie Hoskins’ body in the freezer.

Michele Hoskins was arrested on Thursday and charged with failing to report her mother’s death and tampering with evidence, WFLA reported.

Hoskins reportedly told investigators she had found her mother dead in her bedroom. Detectives said the mother had been dead from natural causes for about two weeks before her daughter bought the freezer to hide the death, alleged because she was concerned “she would not be able to receive her disability benefits.”

Police said they also found a heavily soiled mattress in the home’s backyard, covered in brush and palm tree branches.
