Arkansas Sex Offender Cuts Off Electronic Monitoring Device

Arkansas police are looking for a convicted child sex offender they say took off his electronic monitoring device.

Cameron Santana, 36, was convicted in 2009 for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl. He was out of jail on probation when he took off the monitor, KHBS reported.

Sebastian County Sheriff’s Capt. Philip Pevehouse said that probation and parole officers told the sheriff’s office Santana had cut off the monitor on Wednesday, and deputies have secured arrest warrants for parole violations.

Santana was reportedly out on parole after pleading guilty in 2019 to drug charges and failing to follow sex offender laws. But he was rearrested in January, charged with burglary and drug and weapons charges. He was awaiting trial, out on a $25,000 bond, when he removed the monitor.

Santana’s mother told KHBS that her son is a drug addict but said she doesn’t think he’s a threat to the public. But deputies say they’re not taking chances.

“When it comes to the safety of the citizens of Sebastian County, we have a real fiduciary duty to let the public know what’s going on. A – we have a sex offender that currently, right now, we do not know the whereabouts of. B – We know that he has a violent crime background,” Pevehouse said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 479-783-1051.
