Tenant Heard Screams a Month Before Man’s Rotting Body Is Found in Apartment Chimney

Nebraska police have identified a man who was found dead in a chimney earlier this month.

The Norfolk Daily News reported that Zachariah Andrews, 29, was found dead at a Norfolk apartment building on October 19 after a maintenance worker discovered a shoe while investigating a foul odor. Andrews identification was found on him, and police also positively identified him through tattoos and scars on his body.

On September 16, a tenant reportedly called 911 about a man screaming for help apparently from the first floor. The screaming was not heard once cops arrived at the scene three to four minutes later, according to the Norfolk Daily News.

Andrews was last seen on September 15, though he was reported missing on October 3. The Norfolk Daily News reported that police placed a parking warning on Andrews’ car on September 20.

Police believe Andrews’ death was accidental. A report from 2018 stated that Andrews was arrested for trying to entice a 12-year-old girl who was selling a swimsuit on Facebook. This summer, he was sentenced to six months in jail for harassing his former probation officer.
