Long Island Serial Killer Suspect Rex Heuermann’s Wife Visits for First Time Since His Arrest

Serial killer suspect Rex Heuermann got a visit from his estranged wife in jail on Wednesday, the first time Asa Ellerup has visited the accused murderer.

Ellerup filed for divorce six days after Heuermann’s July 13 arrest in the deaths of Megan Waterman, Melissa Barthelemy, and Amber Lynn Costello, as CrimeOnline reported. Heuermann, who is said to be the prime suspect in the death of a fourth woman, has pleaded not guilty.

“I can confirm that Asa did visit with Rex yesterday,” Ellerup’s divorce attorney, Bob Macedonio, told Newsday. “I have no further comment.”

A spokesperson for the Suffolk County Jail, where Heuermann is being held without bond, said that the inmate did receive a visit on Wednesday but declined to identify the visitor.

Heuermann’s defense attorney did not immediately respond to Newsday’s inquiry but has said in the past that his client and Ellerup have communicated by phone.

Heuermann is not contesting the divorce.

It’s unclear if Heuermann’s daughter, Victoria Heuermann, or stepson, Christopher Sheridan, have visited him. An attorney representing them said in August they had not but were not  “not foreclosing” a jailhouse visit.
