2 Brothers Found Dead in Woods Were Possibly Killed by Fentanyl-Laced Drugs

Alabama investigators believe a drug overdose led to the deaths of two brothers whose bodies were discovered on Wednesday.

Braxton Thomas, 30, and Rico Tannehill, 28, vanished from the Haleyville area on November 5 — days before they were found dead in a vehicle in Winston County. Thomas’ wife told AL.com that she believes someone gave her husband and Tannehill pills laced with fentanyl.

However, authorities said they believe Thomas and Tannehill unknowingly had marijuana laced with fentanyl, according to WAAY.

Winston County police said the brothers were found dead in a wooded area. They have not disclosed whether foul play is suspected in their deaths.

According to Thomas’ wife, she called their teen son on the morning of November 6 to check if Thomas was home when he left for work. The son reportedly said he was not, but he assumed he was out getting breakfast.

Thomas said she called the two men’s phones but they eventually stopped ringing.

His phone pinged in Haleyville and the next call was that they found his car and they weren’t there. Him and his brother were both deceased,” Thomas’ wife told WBRC.

An investigation is ongoing.
