Update: Army Family of 4 Found Dead on Georgia Post After ‘Domestic’ Incident

An Army staff sergeant, her husband, and their 4- and 9-year-old children were found dead Wednesday in their home on Georgia Army post Fort Stewart in what an incident investigators said was “domestic in nature.”

Task and Purpose said that Staff Sgt. Meiziaha T. Cooper and her husband, Desmond Cooper, were pronounced dead just after 5 p.m. on Wednesday after Cooper’s unit had requested a welfare check, as CrimeOnline reported.

The Army did not identify Cooper’s unit but said she was a culinary specialist.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Staff Sgt. Cooper’s family, friends and teammates during this very difficult and tragic time,” said 3rd Infantry Division Deputy Commander of Operations Col. Jeremy S. Wilson. “Our community has been shaken by this unspeakable tragedy and out of respect to the family, we ask for privacy to grieve this loss.”

The Army said Cooper joined up in 2012.

Fort Stewart, the Army’s biggest post east of the Mississippi River, is home to the 3rd Infantry Division. The post is about 50 miles southwest of Savannah, near Hinesville.
